 1. Plan ahead

calendarPick your travel dates and make your bookings early to avoid disappointment.

Mid-December to mid-April is the tourist season in Barbados, as visitors seek to escape the cold weather at home. Mid-July to early August is the peak of the Crop Over summer festival, another popular travel period.  Book off-season for great savings.

2. Book direct

Most hotels offer great rates and special offers for visitors booking directly with them. By communicating directly with the hotel you can often arrange great deals and room upgrades.

Car rentals and tour companies also offer discounts on direct bookings.

An exception is if you’re taking a Caribbean cruise. Booking island tours and activities on board is often the most convenient and cost-effective way to go.

3. Make a schedule

Research the island online (facebook and Barbados.org are great places to start) and make a list of the places you want to visit, including beaches, activities, restaurants, museums, and other places of interest.

Organize a rough schedule of your trip but leave room for relaxation and spontaneity… you’re on vacation after all 🙂

4. Download an app or bookmark a website

Mobile appsIt’s always great to have a mobile companion close to hand! Many Barbados  mobile apps include event guides, island maps and travel tips.

Browse your app store for relevant Barbados apps.

The Barbados.org website is mobile-friendly, so bookmark it on your phone/tablet as another mobile guide.

5.  Careful review

Make sure you’ve got your travel documents in order – ticket, passport, visa (if necessary), drivers license (if you plan to rent a car), money.

Be sure to pack the essentials for a tropical vacation – light clothing, beachwear, sunglasses, sunblock and mosquito spray. And of course the modern essentials – iPad/tablet, Kindle, phone and camera. Travel light, leaving lots of room for souvenirs and gifts for family & friends.

Notify a friend or family member about your travel plans and leave them a contact number and address of where you plan to stay.
