River Bay has long been a favourite picnic spot for locals; weekends and public holidays find the area filled with families enjoying a relaxing day in this peaceful setting. During the week it’s much quieter.
What to do at River Bay
No trip to River Bay is complete without a short stroll to the top of the cliffs to see the mighty waves of the Atlantic Ocean pounding the shoreline. It’s not all that unusual to spot a whale or two out to sea!
To the southern end of the bay a natural freshwater stream runs onto the beach, hence the name River Bay. Kids enjoy splashing in these waters and exploring the stream inland.
Facilities
Facilities at River Bay include picnic benches and washroom facilities. Be sure to bring your lunch with you as there are no restaurants at River Bay.
Getting here
A hired car is a great way to get to River Bay. Plan your route in advance and bring your map or GPS as it is a bit remote.
Another great option is to catch a Barbados Transport Board bus. Bus fare is just $1.00 US from/to anywhere on a single bus. See their schedule and select “River Bay” in the “Search By Keyword” section.
