Barbados Commits To Cultural Heritage Preservation

The Government of Barbados has committed to the continued preservation of our cultural heritage, and sustainable economic growth, with assistance from the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.

A US$75 million loan will support the Reclaiming Our Atlantic Destiny (ROAD) Program which aims to leverage Barbados’ geographic location, cultural heritage, and economic potential to drive sustainable development and innovation.

A key component is the Barbados Heritage District, a profound testament to the resilience and spirit of a nation and Caribbean region that has endured through some of history’s darkest chapters.

Funds will also be allocated to the development of an amphitheatre at the National Botanical Gardens. This will enhance Barbados’ existing cultural and heritage facilities, and encourage future growth in these areas.

Like all small island developing states, Barbados seeks to balance preservation and progress. To support the growing tourism industry this loan will also be used to modernize the island’s airport infrastructure.
