Need another reason to visit Barbados? The island is one of the destinations where you are least likely to become caught up in a natural disaster, according to the United Nations.
The 2015 World Risk Report by the United Nations University for Environment and Human Security lists Barbados as the 4th safest country in the world with respect to natural disasters, with just a 1.22% chance of disaster.
171 countries were included in this risk assessment. Natural disasters considered include storm, tsunami, earthquake and floods.
The greatest threat to Barbados is Atlantic hurricanes, but the islands location at the southern end of the Caribbean chain offers some protection with most storms veering to the north. In fact Barbados has not been struck by a major hurricane since 1955. Barbados was deemed to have low exposition and susceptibility, while having good coping and adaptive capacities.
