Step back in time and soak in the serene beauty of Barbados’ historic churches.
Each stone tells a story of faith, resilience, and island heritage.

The Anglican Church

When English settlers established the Barbados colony in the 1620’s one key priority for them was the building of Anglican churches. The Anglican Church was the dominant religious institution and played a central role in the social and religious life of the island.

These churches remain not only places of worship but also important cultural and historical sites, attracting visitors from around the world.

Other Religions

Barbados’ religious landscape was diversified through colonization, slavery, and immigration, as the island attracted the Roman Catholic Church (especially by Irish indentured servants), Methodists and Moravians (both strongly opposed to slavery) and Hindus and Muslims (through immigrants from India).

Rastafarianism emerged in the 20th century, along with Pentecostal and Evangelical churches known for their vibrant worship services and community outreach programs.
