Barbados Running and Walking Routes: A Guide to Island Trails

more Barbados things to do

Barbados, known for its laid-back lifestyle, also boasts a vibrant fitness culture. Early mornings often find locals taking advantage of the cooler conditions for brisk walks, jogs, or runs. For those who prefer to unwind after a long day, evening strolls and runs offer a relaxing way to end the day.

The island's boardwalks are popular spots for running and walking, but there are several other choices ranging from coastal routes to historical sites, and challenging trails.

Coastal Routes

In addition to the boardwalks, there are several other coastal routes for you to try out.

If you're staying on the north-western coast of the island check out the Speightstown & Port St. Charles run.

On the south coast, the Miami Beach to Lighthouse route is a relatively quiet road run/walk with ocean views and a visit to a historic lighthouse!

Up For A Challenge?

While Barbados is a relatively flat island, the interior offers some impressive elevations for walkers and runners. The Cherry Tree Hill route takes you on a challenging 12km (7.5 mile) trip through the scenic countryside and past historic sites such as Morgan Lewis Windmill and St. Nicholas Abbey.

Gentler Strolls

The Garrison Savannah is a popular walking spot with locals for a brisk afternoon walk around the horse racing course.

The National Botanical Gardens covers over 200 acres, giving lots of room to walk & explore while enjoying floral and natural beauty.

The Barbados Trailway is a paved path perfect for walking and jogging, that traces part of the route of the former Barbados Railway. The route is lined with local fruit trees, and there are benches along the way.

Charity Runs and Walks

Every month there are 10K, 5K and 3K walks and runs, mostly held to raise money for various charities.
