Value Added Tax

A Value Added Tax (VAT) applies to the sale of most products and services in Barbados.

A VAT rate of 17.5% is generally applicable. For accommodation and direct tourism services a rate of 8.75% applies. Some basic food items are subject to a zero rate (i.e. no VAT is paid).

The amount of VAT charged will appear on your bill or invoice, if applicable.

Service Charge

A service charge of between 10 and 15 percent is typically added to your bill at hotels and restaurants. Tipping is at your discretion.
