The Anglican Church<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When English settlers established the Barbados colony in the 1620’s one key priority for them was the building of Anglican churches. The Anglican Church was\u00a0the dominant religious institution and\u00a0played a central role in the social and religious life of the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These churches remain not only places of worship but also important cultural and historical sites, attracting visitors from around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other Religions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Barbados’ religious landscape was diversified through colonization, slavery, and immigration, as the island attracted the Roman Catholic Church<\/strong> (especially by Irish indentured servants), Methodists <\/strong>and Moravians <\/strong>(both strongly opposed to slavery) and Hindus <\/strong>and Muslims <\/strong>(through immigrants from India). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rastafarianism <\/strong>emerged in the 20th century, along with Pentecostal <\/strong>and Evangelical <\/strong>churches known for their vibrant worship services and community outreach programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
