These forces were held at bay off Speightstown for many months. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"344\" src=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-speightstown.jpg\" alt=\"Speightstown Esplanade\" class=\"wp-image-7600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-speightstown.jpg 900w, https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-speightstown-300x115.jpg 300w, https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-speightstown-768x294.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><br>We then headed south to <strong>Oistins Bay Garden<\/strong> for a <strong>midday <\/strong>show with the Israel Lovell Foundation, poet and playwright Winston Farrell and songstress Aaliyah Cumberbatch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In 1652 the Charter of Barbados was signed in Oistins between Oliver Cromwell\u2019s forces and the Governor of Barbados. The Charter ensured the colonists<\/em> of<em> special rights and privileges related to land ownership, taxation and local governance.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"436\" src=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-treaty.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7602\" srcset=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-treaty.jpg 900w, https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-treaty-300x145.jpg 300w, https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-treaty-768x372.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Back on west coast, <strong>Holetown <\/strong>was the place to be at <strong>1pm<\/strong> for entertainment by soulful singer Tavon Boyce, spoken-word artist Deo De Poet and the Phoenix Steel Pan Trio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Holetown is the site of the first English settlement on the island in 1627, the beginning of a trajectory leading to the institution of plantation slavery.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"454\" src=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-holetown.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7603\" srcset=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-holetown.jpg 900w, https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-holetown-300x151.jpg 300w, https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/season-holetown-768x387.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Golden Square Freedom Park<\/strong> in our capital city Bridgetown hosted the day&#8217;s final activities starting at <strong>3pm<\/strong> for inspiring performances by writer and spoken word performer Luci Hammans, Dancin\u2019 Africa and the Calvary Moravian Steel Orchestra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Bridgetown was the initial Caribbean stop for slave ships arriving from Africa, where slaves were offloaded and sold.
