We’re still on the west coast of Barbados after visiting Reed’s Bay<\/a> last week as we explore Fitts Village beach<\/strong>, our featured Barbados beach of the week!<\/p>\n

Fitts Village Beach, Barbados<\/p><\/div>\n

This beach is located just north of Prospect and just south of Paynes Bay right off the main highway (Highway 1) on the west coast of the island.<\/p>\n

Fitts Village beach is pretty quiet mostly used by locals from the surrounding districts and guests who stay at the\u00a0small apartments and villas located on the beachfront.<\/p>\n

The seas here are calm, as you would expect on this coast, although it’s a bit more lively in some spots and at high tide. Small reefs in the area, especially to the south, provide for interesting snorkeling. The beach is quite wide and shade is provided by trees bordering the beach.<\/p>\n

There are picnic benches in the wooded area leading onto the beach. You can pack your own lunch or pop across the road to the supermarket for drinks and snacks.<\/p>\n

Fitts Village beach is a favourite nesting spot for turtles<\/strong>\u00a0with many hatchlings beginning their life right here. The\u00a0Barbados Sea Turtle Project also releases hatchlings on this beach and encourages locals and visitors to assist in this process. Visit their Facebook page<\/a> for dates and times of releases.\u00a0Barbados is home to the second-largest Hawksbill turtle nesting population in the Caribbean. The nesting season for these turtles is\u00a0May-October.<\/p>\n

Parking is available at the Church of the Good Shepherd (a beautiful seaside Anglican church). \u00a0Or you can easily catch a bus as Fitts Village is on the main bus route – get off at the Fitts Village Esplanade directly opposite Jordans Supermarket.<\/p>\n
