{"id":602,"date":"2012-04-26T08:00:30","date_gmt":"2012-04-26T12:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/?p=602"},"modified":"2012-04-26T08:00:30","modified_gmt":"2012-04-26T12:00:30","slug":"barbados-tops-caribbean-in-information-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/barbados-tops-caribbean-in-information-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Barbados tops Caribbean in Information Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Barbados has emerged as the top Caribbean country in a recent worldwide report on Information Technology.<\/p>\n<p>The 2012 Global Information Technology Report ranks\u00a0Barbados <strong>35th<\/strong> of <strong>142<\/strong> countries covered in the report, with a score of <strong>4.61<\/strong>\u00a0in the\u00a0Networked Readiness Index.<\/p>\n<p>The island ranked\u00a0particularly\u00a0well in the areas of \u00a0<strong>Skills<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Political and regulatory environment<\/strong>, reflecting the heavy emphasis that Barbados places on <a title=\"Barbados education system\" href=\"http:\/\/barbados.org\/educate.htm?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=Post\" target=\"_blank\">education<\/a> as well as stable and effective governance. In fact Barbados ranked 10th in the world for\u00a0<strong>Quality of math and science education<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The report acknowledges that the Caribbean and Latin American region continue to lag behind in adopting Information and Communication Technology but points to\u00a0<strong>Barbados<\/strong>, Puerto Rico,\u00a0Chile, and Uruguay as exceptions.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In the case of Barbados, the strong skill base (10th) results in a large individual uptake of technology (24th) and offsets the high costs of using ICT (102nd).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_603\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-603\" class=\"size-full wp-image-603\" title=\"global-it-report-2012\" src=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/global-it-report-2012.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/global-it-report-2012.gif 350w, https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/global-it-report-2012-300x263.gif 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-603\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: http:\/\/www3.weforum.org\/docs\/Global_IT_Report_2012.pdf<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Barbados also ranked well for\u00a0<strong>Mobile network coverage<\/strong>, with\u00a099.9% of the population\u00a0covered by a mobile network signal, although mobile rates remain high.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Barbados has emerged as the top Caribbean country in a recent worldwide report on Information Technology.
