In Barbados, they nest in the mangrove along the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary. They find refuge along the coral reefs and in low trees and shrubs around the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As they migrate, they can fly for months at times and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audubon.org\/news\/scientists-finally-have-evidence-frigatebirds-sleep-while-flying\">will sleep by taking short naps in the air<\/a> as they glide effortlessly along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> A new study about the Great Frigatebird, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/ncomms\/2016\/160803\/ncomms12468\/full\/ncomms12468.html\">published earlier this month in <em>Nature Communications<\/em><\/a>, attests to the fact that the frigatebird&#8217;s aerial&nbsp;feats are astonishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their research found that, &#8220;on their wandering flights,&nbsp;frigatebirds can stay aloft for up to two months&nbsp;without touching down on land or water.&#8221; They can float on the sea to take a break but they can&#8217;t swim. Although they live by the sea, they are not water birds and will get waterlogged and drown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Niels Rattenborg of Germany&#8217;s Max Planck Institute for Ornithology studied their sleep patterns by implanting electroencephalographs (EEGs) into some of the birds. They found that frigatebirds &#8220;do sleep while flying.
