{"id":501,"date":"2012-01-17T08:16:26","date_gmt":"2012-01-17T12:16:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/?p=501"},"modified":"2023-05-27T10:22:46","modified_gmt":"2023-05-27T14:22:46","slug":"barbados-open-house-programme-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/barbados-open-house-programme-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Barbados Open House Programme 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every January Bajans, the local ex-pat community and visitors begin to wonder&#8230; <em>which houses will be on the Open House schedule this year?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Yes the Barbados National Trust&#8217;s Open House programme is eagerly awaited!<\/p>\n<p>And this year, as always, there will be no disappointment!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" title=\"Main Guard House at The Garrison\" src=\"http:\/\/barbados.org\/landscap\/main-guard-house.jpg\" alt=\"Main Guard House at The Garrison\" width=\"200\" height=\"267\" \/>The season kicks off on January 18th with the opening of\u00a0<strong>St. Ann&#8217;s Fort<\/strong>, <strong>Drill Hall<\/strong> and the historic <strong><a title=\"historic cannon collection in Barbados\" href=\"http:\/\/www.barbados.org\/garison.htm?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=Post\">cannon collection<\/a><\/strong>. The capital city Bridgetown and it&#8217;s Garrison were recently awarded <strong>UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/strong> status so it is indeed fitting that the Open House season begins with\u00a0St. Ann&#8217;s Garrison. The tour includes an exploration of the 1707 fort and the astounding cannon collection.<\/p>\n<p>The season also wraps up at the Garrison with the opening of <a title=\"George Washington House, Barbados\" href=\"http:\/\/www.barbados.org\/george_washington.htm?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=Post\">George Washington House<\/a> and the <a title=\"Barbados Military Cemetery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.barbados.org\/barbados-military-cemetery.htm?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=Post\">Military Cemetery<\/a>\u00a0on March 28th.<\/p>\n<p>This years programme includes a special opening of the <a title=\"Jewish Synagogue\" href=\"http:\/\/www.barbados.org\/jewish.htm?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=Post\">Jewish Synagogue<\/a> and <a title=\"Nidhe Israel Museum\" href=\"http:\/\/www.barbados.org\/barbados-jewish-museum.htm?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=Post\">Nidhe Israel Museum<\/a>.\u00a0Nidhe Israel is one of the two earliest temples in the western hemisphere.<\/p>\n<p>Modern buildings are also featured this year including the elegant\u00a0Beauchamp Hall in the <strong>St. John<\/strong> countryside and the luxurious Arawidi in The Apes Hill estate.<\/p>\n<p>Not on the list, but well worth a visit is the St. John Church.\u00a0 It sits on the edge of <strong>Hackletons Cliff<\/strong> and is the resting place of<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/paleologue-a-legacy-of-elegance-influenc\">Frediando of the Greek Palaiologos Dynasty<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/paleologue-a-legacy-of-elegance-influence\/\"><strong>.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Barbados Open House Programme 2012\" href=\"http:\/\/barbados.org\/openhse.htm?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_campaign=Post#programme\">View the full Open House Programme<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every January Bajans, the local ex-pat community and visitors begin to wonder&#8230; which houses will be on the Open House schedule this year?\u00a0 Yes the Barbados National Trust&#8217;s Open House programme is eagerly awaited!
