Here are some of our favourites&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p><strong>Penny Hole<\/strong> &#8211; located in the south-eastern parish of <a href=\"http:\/\/barbados.org\/st-philip-barbados.htm\">St.Philip<\/a>\u00a0this area was once the home of an English priest named Rev. Penny who, in order to get easy access to the beach, cut a hole in a rock on his property!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Featherbed Lane<\/strong> &#8211; also in the parish of\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/barbados.org\/st-philip-barbados.htm\">St.Philip<\/a>\u00a0this name was derived from two sisters living in the area who owned feather beds, a luxury at the time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tent Bay<\/strong> &#8211; this picturesque bay on the east coast of island got its name because a sea captain pitched a tent &amp; lived on this spot!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1261\" style=\"width: 595px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1261\" class=\"wp-image-1261 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/tent-bay.jpg\" alt=\"Tent Bay\" width=\"585\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/tent-bay.jpg 585w, https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/tent-bay-300x132.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1261\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tent Bay<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Six Men&#8217;s Bay<\/strong> &#8211; apparently this name was given when canoes\u00a0carrying 6 Amerindians (early inhabitants of the Caribbean islands) were spotted here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Break Neck Hill<\/strong> &#8211; this unfortunate name came about as a result of a fatal accident at the scene in which a victim broke his neck.<\/p>\n<p>The large number of <a href=\"http:\/\/barbados.org\/monkeys.htm\">green monkeys<\/a> found on the island has\u00a0given rise to two interesting place-names &#8211; <strong>Apes Hill<\/strong> in <a href=\"http:\/\/barbados.org\/st-james-barbados.htm\">St.James<\/a> and <strong>Monkey Jump<\/strong> in <a href=\"http:\/\/barbados.org\/st-joseph-barbados.htm\">St.Joseph<\/a>!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1262\" style=\"width: 595px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1262\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1262\" src=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/monkey.jpg\" alt=\"Monkeying Around!\" width=\"585\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/monkey.jpg 585w, https:\/\/barbados.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/monkey-300x144.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1262\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Monkeying Around!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As you travel around Barbados you&#8217;ll discover some fascinating placenames with an intriguing story behind them!
