SUSAN BEALE

The Potter, Susan Beale, enjoys creating new shapes and textures out of clay. Though she is experimental in her work, Susan focuses mainly on functional pieces ( e.g. teapots and cups, candleholders and a variety of bowls etc.).

She works in both porcelain and red clay ( Barbados clay found in the Chalky Mount area of St. Andrew ). She finds heritage pottery, like the Bajan monkey (old time water cooling jug), inspirational but admits she also finds oriental themes influential.

Her bamboo handled teapots with their hand-pressed, relief designs; accompanied by handleless tea cups of similar design, have become famous, and make wonderful gifts. Susan show-cases her work at most of the local festivals where craft is exhibited.
