Barbados Wins Two UK Travel Awards
The Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) won two of the UK's most prestigious travel awards for the exceptional work it does in the UK market, at the recently concluded World Travel Market in London.
For the third consecutive year, Barbados won the award for Best UK-Based Tourist Office promoting an Island at the Selling Long Haul Travel Awards 2006. The Selling Long Haul Award is voted for by the UK travel industry. The Barbados Tourism Authority received the award in recognition of its innovative and effective training initiatives that it delivered to the trade over the past 12 months.
The second award was the Virgin Holidays Best Destination Marketing 2006 Award which recognised the Barbados Tourism Authority’s progressive and outstanding marketing programmes executed over the last 12 months.
Both awards were presented to Petra Roach, VP Marketing and Sales for Europe. Commenting on these awards Ms.Roach said, “We are immensely proud to have won these awards. It caps a fantastic year for the UK office of the BTA, which has seen us increase visitor numbers to the island to record levels. These wins clearly demonstrate that we are way ahead of the competition in the way we work with our partner travel organizations in the UK”
She further noted that, “They reflect our rightful position as the world’s premier holiday island. I am confident that the initiatives we have in place for 2007 will exceed those we have developed so far, especially as we have officially launched our Bajan Club here at WTM. This is our unique trade portal which will bring all our initiatives together online to ensure we remain the true leader in the UK travel market. Winning these awards rounds off a very successful year for the BTA which has seen visitors from the UK increase by over five per cent”.
