Top chess players in control

 Two rounds have been completed in the Sagicor Open Junior Chess Championships. A number of players are on maximum points. In this line up from Barbados are top seed Askari Elson, Olaudah Price, Murali Areti, National qualifier Martyn Del Castilho, Shawn Durant and Alex “Boy wonder” Jackman.

Also sharing the lead from the Trinidad Junior Chess Federation are Sean Perryman Allan Munro, Imran Hosein and Antonio Gellineau. The Trinidadian chess foundation players Alpacino Smith, Margeret Thairu and Justin Saloum are also tied in 1st place. Also on 2 points are Jamaican players Alain Morais and Darren Wisdom and from Surinam Avinash Wahi

Upset

Today’s upset came when former under10 champion Shawn Durant of St Matthew’s primary defeated Andre Howard of the lodge school.

The most competitive match in round 2 came when Martyn Del Castilho defeated National Girls and ladies champion Desire Derrick of the Trinidad Junior Chess Federation, in a highly positional and technical game.

 Key games to come in round 3

In round 3 Askari Elson will be playing the white pieces against Martyn Del Castilho on board 1, on board 2 Imran Hosein will be playing the white pieces against Darren Wisdom  of Jamaica. In a T&T affair defending champion Allan Munroe will take on Mark Richards.
