TIME CONTROL:    Ninety minutes, with an increment of 30 seconds per move from move 1.

GAME DEFAULTS: Default time is 1 hour after official start time and players defaulting without notifying the Chief Arbiter within 24 hours of the default will be warned. A second default with notification will lead to automatic withdrawal from the tournament.

If a withdrawn player has completed 6 or more games then the results of games played will stand. If less than 6 games have been played, the game results will be nullified for the purposes of determining point standings but not ratings.

RATINGS: This competition will be eligible for FIDE and BCF Ratings.

All participants must be members of the Barbados Chess Federation in good financial standing, i.e. BCF Inc.

Please note that in the event of a tie for any cash prize position, the prize for the tied positions will be summed and equally divided among the tied players.  

TIE BREAK: If the scores are level after the regular games for 1st position, the FIDE World Championship tiebreak system shall be used to break the tie.  

 

Dates for the tie-break matches shall be set by the executive committee of BCF Inc. after discussion with  the Chief Arbiter and the Players. 

 

If the tie break involves two players then the following time controls shall be used.  

 

After a new drawing of lots for colours, two tie-break games shall be played. The games shall be played using the DGT clock starting with 25 minutes on the clock and the addition of 10 se­conds after each move. 

 

If this tie-break match is again drawn, then, after a new drawing of lots, two tie-break games shall be played. The games shall be played using the DGT clock starting with 15 minutes on the clock and the addition of 10 se­conds after each move.

 

If this tie-break match/round robin is again drawn, then, after a new drawing of lots, single sudden death games shall be played. The first player to win shall be declared National Cham­pion. The sudden death games shall be played using the DGT clock with White having 4 minutes on the clock and Black five minutes and the additi­on of 10 seconds after each move.

 

If the tie break involves more than two players, then the BCF INC. Vice-President for Tournaments, after consultation with the Chief Arbiter and the Players involved, shall decide on whether the play-off will be a round robin or knock-out using the above time controls.

 

APPEALS COMMITTEE: 

 

The BCF INC. executive committe’s nominee shall be Chairman of the Appe­als Commit­tee. There shall be two other members all of whom shall not be participants in the tournament.  No member of the Appeals Committee shall sit in judge­ment in a dispute involving a player to whom he may be related. 

 

All protests must be submitted in writing to the Chairman of the Appeals Committee not more than twenty four hours after the relevant playing session, or the particular infringement complained against.  

 

The Committee may decide on the following matters:     

 

a) a protest against a decision by an arbiter,

b) a protest against a player's behaviour,

c) a complaint alleging false interpretation of the regulations,            d) a request for the interpretation of specific regulations,                    e) a protest or complaint against any participant, or                              f) all other matters which the Committee considers important.

 

If possible, the Committee shall reach a decision not more than three days after the submission of a protest. The appeals process shall include written representations and a written decision. 

 

Every protest must be accompanied by a deposit fee of BDS$ 50.00 (fifty Barbados Dollars).  If the protest is accepted, the fee shall be returned. If the protest is rejected, the fee may be forfeited to the BCF INC.

 

The decision of the Appeals Committee arising from any dispute in respect of these regulations shall be final.

 

Rescheduling:

 

Postponement of a game is generally not allowed.

 

Preponement of a game may be allowed if it is agreeable to both the players and the Arbiter.  The player requesting the preponement has to pay an arbiter’s fee of Bds $ 15.00.
