Bajans make gains in Round 8 of the 2007 World Youth Chess
Championships.
The Bajan
connection of Martyn Del Castilho, Justin Blackman and Alex
Jackman fought hard to keep things even in round 8 of the
World Youth Chess Championships in Antalya, Turkey to add
another two 2 points to the Barbados Score.
Alex
Jackman was the winner in round 8 playing the white pieces
against…
Justin
Blackman played the white pieces against Turkishman Muratcan
Okanli (rated 1496) played e4 and came up against a Sicilian
Defense (c5) where black played e6 at move 2 , an unusual
line, this game was drawn at move 42 after quiet play
resulting in each player getting a half point.
Martyn
Delcastilho played black against Sai Srinivas of rated 2303
of who played e4 and came up against Del Castilho’s Sicilian
(1.e4c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 e5 6. Ndb5 d6
7. Nd5 Nxd5 8. exd5 Nb8 9. c4 Be7 10. Be2 0-0 11. 0-0), the
Pelikan and Sveshnikov Variations. Both players tried
gaining an advantage but neither could and the game was
drawn with each getting a half point.
The end
of round eight 8 leaves Del Castilho ranked 70 with 4 ˝
points and placed 70th out of the 113 persons playing in
the under 18 section, Alex Jackman ranked 107 has 3 ˝ points
and is placed 107 out of the 154 players in the Under 14
Section and Justin Blackman ranked 84 has 2 ˝ points and
placed 95th out of the 126 players in the Under 16 Section.
Play
continues at the Limra Hotel, where during these last round
all players will be trying not to lose any points and place
at least higher than their rankings.
