Born on 10th May, 1989, Martyn Del Castilho is the youngest player in this year's National Championship. He is currently a student in form 4 in Lodge School. He has been playing chess for last four years and has been winning prizes in the categories he played. Last one year has seen a sudden spurt in his chess development and he is improving very rapidly. The fact that he has qualified for the National championship is a great achievement and indicates that he is a real force to reckon with and has attributes of a champion in the making. The following are his achievements so far:

Barbados Junior Squad - U14 - Top overall performance in 2003
Sagicor Open Junior Chess Championship 2003 (U14) 1st prize
Member of the Lodge School A-Team, which came 1st runner-up in the 2003 United Insurance Inter-School Chess Championship (U20)
United Insurance Simultaneous exhibition - 2003: Draw achieved against FM Philip Corbin
2002 Mutual Open Junior Championship (U14) 1st prize
2002 United Insurance Inter-School Chess Cahmpionships - Jr Division: 3rd runner-up
