Located on the south-western tip of Barbados is the idyllic Pebbles Beach. Here turquoise waters lap gently onto the white sandy beach while small boats bob further out to sea.
Since the waters are very calm this is an ideal beach for swimmers and for those those visiting with young children.
The calm waters also lend themselves to stand up paddle boarding, which is becoming increasingly popular in Barbados. Lessons can be easily arranged with http://paddlebarbados.com
In the early morning the grooms from the nearby Garrison Savannah often bring the racehorses down to the beach for a swim, so if you’re there early you may spot them!
Another wonderful time to visit the beach is around sunset. As the beach is on the western coast of the Barbados the sunsets here are truly spectacular!
There is not much shade at Pebbles Beach so bring along a beach umbrella. Snacks and cool drinks can be purchased from the mini mart at the Shell Gas Station just a few minutes walk away. Most visitors and locals who bathe at Pebbles Beach will tell you not to miss the opportunity to savour some of the best fish sandwiches (cutters we call them!) from Cuz’s Fish Stand right next to the beach. While food trucks are now all the rage in the US, Barbados has always had a culture of food stands and food vans.
The Bayside Plaza, about a 4 minute stroll from the beach, offers an enticing array of food including Indian rotis, Jamaican food and local snacks. The buffet lunch at the nearby Brown Sugar Restaurant is a must-do and will delight you with the very best local dishes.
Parking is available right next to the beach; if you’re travelling by bus disembark on Bay Street and stroll about 3 minutes or so down to the beach.
As Pebbles Beach is located in the World Heritage Site – ‘Historic Bridgetown and Its Garrison‘ within walking distance are a number of historic sites and museums. All can be easily combined with a trip to Pebbles for an amazing day of discovery and relaxation.
If you wish to stay in the area there are several top-class hotels nearby. Located directly on Pebbles Beach are Holiday Inn (formerly Grand Barbados) and The Barbados Hilton. Just a few steps away is the all-inclusive Island Inn Hotel.
